tying a knot on your save the date card. These cards are printed on

130# white linen card stock with navy and coral ink, but you

can customize your ink colors and fonts.

I love the clean modern look of this card.

and has a 1.5 inch black and gray damask strip on it.

Vinyl Wall Lettering Using Cantoni Font

Looking for that something special for your newborn’s nursery?

Will you be my bridesmaid, groomsman?

I am always honored when a client asks me to help design something I think is really cool.

Jill Effrussy of, Stamped Paper Company, and her fab fiance Chad, were looking for a clever way

to ask their wedding party to be in their wedding.

For the guys, they were inspired by a chocolate bowtie

along with the idea to create a graphic with “how to tie a bowtie” instructions.

You love it already, right?

So I immediately thought of hand lettering the invitation in gold on black card stock

in the shape of a bow tie. Each gentleman’s name is centered on the bow tie’s knot.

Included in each invitation box were the hand lettered invite, Jill’s great graphic

and a delectable chocolate bow tie in a cellophane wrapper with a white bow.

Jill created these modern shipping labels in black and white for the address labels.

Love the black and white stripes coming over the box’s edge to seal it.

For the bridesmaids, we created these adorable invitations with a glam squad

theme. The cards, purchased at Paper Source, already had the golf foil dots in the corners.

I hand lettered the invitation in metallic gold.

A splash of red was added in the shape of lips with the each girl’s name in the middle.

It was sealed with a red “XOXO” next to Jill’s name.

Included in the ladies boxes were a black make-up bag with gold dots,

a set of black and gold make-up brushes, a black compact mirror with gold dots and

a couple of cute hair bands in coordinating colors.

All of the items are sitting on top of white and gold crinkled paper.

These darling packages were mailed in white kraft boxes with a black and

white label featuring my Cantoni Calligraphy Font. Also, on the label in red is

“Please deliver to” which is part of my Cantoni Wedding Words package.

I love the finishing touch of the butterfly stamps scattered on top!

Personalized Note Cards at Papyrus

While shopping at Willow Bend Mall in Plano,Texas, I happened to venture into Papyrus

( love their paper goods!)

and was stopped in my tracks at the entrance by this rack of cards.

( Sorry the pic’s blurry. I was so excited to see them!)

They are personalized cards featuring my Belluccia font!

It still thrills me to see people using it. And to see it at Papyrus was an added bonus.

I love the color combinations and the modern patterned backs.

And get this. The sales clerk at the store told me he can print a set out in about 20- 30 minutes.

What! That’s crazy convenient for last minute shoppers:)

So if you are looking for a last minute gift ( and live in the Dallas area) this would be a lovely option.

I’m not sure if they are available at other locations.

I’m guessing you could call them on the phone to check.

So if that wasn’t exciting enough…

after I left the mall, I ventured into another of my favorite stores, Target.

(Here’s where I go into my Christmas rhyme to share a fun announcement.)

And what to my wondering eyes did appear???

The words “Merry Christmas” on a bag that was near.

Belluccia again, has shown up at the scene.

So what, I did wonder, could all of this mean?

With designers near and far, she’s hit a sweet note.

Newly Released Baghadeer Font by Stephen Rapp at 40% off

I’m pleased to introduce you to this lovely new font created by one of my font heroes!

Baghadeer, from the hand of Stephen Rapp, is an upright connecting script brimming with personality!

I had a great time playing around with it to make this graphic above.

Watercolor Wedding Invitation with Belluccia Calligraphy Font

I just love the way Jen Simpson of JenSimpsonDesign used my Belluccia calligraphy font to create this lovely “Watercolor” wedding invitation suite.

The subtle varied pink tone background paired with the soft brown lettering creates an earth and air feeling.

It was the perfect match for a Princess Bride inspired blog post on Green Wedding Shoes .

The bride and groom’s first names on the back of the envelope and front of the RSVP envelope as well as their initials on the tag with twine for tying, are small details that add great impact.

All of the gorgeous Princess Bride shots were done by Ashley of Ashley Bee Photography.

A clean complimentary text font as well as my Belluccia flourishes are all that’s needed for this sweet menu.

White Calligraphy on Gray Envelopes

I love the contrast of white on any colored envelope.

So I was thrilled to get to letter on these gray ones 293 times!

The invitation featured the Peoni Script font.

So I matched it on the envelope along with a serifed block style of lettering.

I have to say this is the first time I lettered an envelope for addressed to a Supreme Court!

I think it’s the longest address I’ve ever done as well.

Since it’s wedding season, I am in the throws of doing envelopes and invitations.

In addition I’ve been working on my next font that should be released in May!

I’ll try to give you a little sampling of it so you can check it out.

Interview with Christy Toney, Calligrapher and Graphic Designer

I want to introduce you to Chris Toney, a wonderful calligrapher and graphic designer

based in the cool city of Chicago.

Her work is lovely.

I’ve been curious about how this gal does so many things so well.

She manages a website, blog and etsy shop where she has invitation designs ( and other goodies) for you to choose from. She can also print them for you!

Luckily I was able to get her to take some time to answer a few questions.

Enjoy getting to know this multi talented lady!

You are both a calligrapher and graphic designer…which did you do first?
I’ve been doing calligraphy since high school, so definitely calligraphy!

What got you started in the other?
I have a background that includes sketching and painting and I found myself later working in advertising. I’ve always gravitated towards the creative side. I dreamed of becoming an art director one day so a big part of my early professional career, dating back to 1996, has been spent acquiring training and trying to design for family, friends, anyone who would give me a chance to create something special.

How long have you been doing both?
I picked up my first calligraphy pen when I was 15 years old, and the early days of my graphic design work dates back to 2000.

Where did you get your formal training?
I attended Lindblom Technical H.S. where I audited 4 years of drafting/technical drawing. I also fell in love with the print shop and commercial art. The manual training rooms at Lindblom also included auto repair, plastics molding, and sheet metal training, so its no mistake that I love to work with my hands now. I got my B.A. in Graphic Design from Columbia College in Chicago.

If you could describe your dream project, what would it be?
I’m gravitating more and more to projects that I can come up with on my own. Perhaps a decorative project. Something not for guests to consume, but something to just hang up and be pretty for the evening. That would be a nice challenge for me.

You seem to have a lot going on! Can you tell my readers all of the services you offer?
I know right?! Weddings have become so personal now that my own list of services had no choice but to increase! I do calligraphy, invitations and day of stationery which can include but is not limited to: ceremony programs, place cards, seating charts, event signage, menus, table numbers, etc.

What advice would you give to brides who are just starting to think about their invitation? What kind of info is helpful for them to give to you as a designer?
I would tell them to look at different invitations just to get an idea of what they want. Also, they should consider how much information they need to communicate because that usually determines what kind of vehicle they will need. Finally, I would add that with the popularity of Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc. the world has gotten much smaller. Its fine to be inspired by beautiful stationery, but simply taking someone else’s invitation and asking another designer to duplicate it is disrespectful to both parties.

Are all of your designs custom or do you have some stock designs that brides can choose from?
At this stage I actually prefer for brides to select designs that I’ve already done. The calligraphy keeps me so busy! You can see existing designs on my Etsy Shop.

Anything else you’d like to share?

You live in Chicago…(I’ve never been but hope to go at some point in the future)
What are some “must do’s” and “hidden gems” in the city that most people don’t know about?
Awww, well there is so much to see (and great food to devour) downtown, you really can’t go wrong staying down there. I will say that if you are a fan of architecture, be sure to make it to the South Side to visit the Historic Pullman neighborhood. The preservation of this neighborhood is amazing and there is a visitors center and tours you can take. I actually lived in this community for a few years and it was a great experience. It was built by George Pullman in the 1880s to house employees of his railroad car company. Annually (usually sometime during the Fall), 8-10 homeowners open up their residences and people from all over come and take a peek. There are also wonderful artisans and re-sellers littered throughout the neighborhood during these open houses and if you take your time, you can really can find some gems.
