Golden Anniversary Guest Book

Some wonderfully sweet neighbors were about to celebrate their golden anniversary and asked me to hand-letter their guest book.

It was such a pleasure to play a small part in this very special event.

Creating a lettering look that went with the style of the pre-printed type was my goal.

golden anniversary guest book, hand-lettering, Debi Sementelli, Lettering Art Studio, calligraphy, cursive writing, hand-lettering technique

Here’s an inside look at how I completed the task.

I first created several drafts to get the feel for the stye and size.

I custom mixed gouache paint until I got the perfect color.

Once I was comfortable with the color and the look, I positioned my final draft on my light table with the book page on top.

I lettered the words using my final draft as a guide to ensure I got the exact placement and size I wanted.

They were thrilled with the final result.

It was nice to do something like this for such a sweet couple.

Happy Golden Anniversary Sandra and Frank!

My new Cantoni font is ready for submission to Myfonts.com.

I’ll be sure to let you know when it is up on the site and ready for purchase.

And I’ll be posting images soon to show you the final results!

In the meantime, my calligraphy fonts, Dom Loves Mary and Belluccia are available for purchase here.

Have a Masterful Monday 🙂

Custom Hand Lettering for a Wine Themed Couples Shower Invitation

The lovely book author Suzanne Crowley brought me this darling invitation, from plushpaper on Etsy, for a couples wedding shower and asked me to hand-letter the envelopes.

I matched the script font and the colors to create a coordinated look.

I just love the clean, modern feel of the invitation.

Here’s another pic of the invitation with the coordinated envelopes.

Suzanne did a fabulous job with the themed shower decorations.

It started with personalized name tags on each guest’s wine glass. Functional and decorative!

Suzanne’s father, Acree Carlisle, a wildlife artist , did all the lettering on the wine tags and signs.

Just love the couple’s initials made out of wine corks! She purchased these here on Etsy.

Peacock Inspired Wedding Invitation Addressing

Loved doing the lettering for this Peacock inspired wedding invitation.

The invite and accompanying cards were enfolded in this midnight blue shimmer pouch.

I didn’t get a chance to take a pic of the whole suite before sending them back to the client, but the colors were gorgeous!

This picture doesn’t do it justice as it’s so hard to photograph anything on shimmer paper.

One day I’ll find a tutorial for that:)

The Mother-of-the-Bride, who designed the set, used my Belluccia calligraphy font

so I matched the lettering in the same style.

The main color ( that looks yellow in the pic) was actually a bright peacock green.

The accent color,  peacock blue, was used for the ampersand, zip code and return address.

Today, a new client just dropped off some of the most darling place cards that I will be lettering on.

They have a black mustache and a pair of red lips:)  I’ll be sure to post them before they go out the door!

As always, my calligraphy fonts, Dom Loves Mary and Belluccia are available.

You can purchase them here.

Have a Wishful Wednesday 🙂

Personalized Tea Cup Favors

I was thrilled to be invited to meet some darling invitation designers last night.

The attendees included : (starting at left and going clockwise) Lesa Abney of Paper Nest, Malena of Little Bird Paperie, Caroline Hull of Caroline Creates,  Rebecca Bowen on minted.com, Jill Efrussy of Stamped Paper Co., and Lauren Chism of Palm Papers

Of course I wanted to come bearing gifts.

So I packed up these personalized tea cups ( the lettering is done in my soon to be released font!)

driving through pouring rain across the city to grab some dinner with them at Times Ten wine cellar.

That’s how excited I was to meet them!

Most of them design for the popular online invitation site  minted.com as well have their own Etsy shop.

For those of you who don’t know…minted.com has contests with different themes.

Invitation designers submit their creations for people to vote on.

The final winners have their entries made available for sale on the site.

Pretty cool!

Some of the gals do custom invitation design and have their own websites.

All are very talented!

DIY Tutorial: How to use the Dom Loves Mary Font Add Ons in Microsoft Word

This DIY tutorial: How to use the Dom Loves Mary Font Add Ons in Microsoft Word

was created in answer to an e-mail.

This gal was trying to create  “PLEASE deliver to” to print on her envelopes along with the addresses

using my Dom Loves Mary Add On Words and Text font as seen in the graphic above.

The Dom Loves Mary Stylistic font and Text font along with the Additional Flourish package

and Add On font were all used to create this graphic.

They all come together at a discounted price in the Dom Loves Mary Total Design Package found in “Buying Choices” on the DLM font page at MyFonts.com.

This is a great choice for the Do-it-Yourself person who wants the look of calligraphy for less!

So I immediately thought, “It’s time to make another tutorial!”

I’ve been working hard all morning to create this video for you on my YouTube channel.

Just click on the video below.

I hope it’s helpful!

Here’s the link to it on my Lettering Art  Studio YouTube Channel.

It will show it a little larger.

You can also subscribe to my channel so you’ll hear about all the additional tutorials I create.

Both my Belluccia calligraphy font and her “sister” Dom Loves Mary calligraphy font share the distinction of being a “Rising Star” as well as a “Best Selling Font”.

Free Calligraphy Floral Printables

Hello Lovies!

Spring is already in the air in Texas.

So I thought I would make some calligraphy floral printables to share with you.

Just click on the pics below and “Save as” on your computer.

Free Printable, Flower illustration, Calligraphy saying, Sayings in Calligrahy,Calligraphy, Debi Sementelli, Lettering Art Studio

I started with an original quote and hand lettered it in the shape of a tall vase.

I fashioned the words into vases because it’s my belief that we all decide what we want to fill our lives with.

I like to put happy things in mine!

I hand painted parts of the flowers and leaves and added one of my Belluccia font borders to frame it.

The question ” What do you want your day to look like?” was asked of me a long time ago

when I was deciding whether to expand my small part time business or keep it limited

so I could have more time with my kids and husband.

My sons were still only 5 and 8 at the time.

As soon as I answered it, I knew exactly what I needed to do.

Free Printable, Flower illustration, Calligraphy saying, Sayings in Calligrahy,Calligraphy, Debi Sementelli, Lettering Art StudioBoth of these questions are still something I ask myself when I’m contemplating a new venture.

There are only so many hours in a day.

I want to spend them doing the things I love as much as possible.

And being with the people who make me smile.

I hope these simple prints remind you to fill your life with good things every day.

Oh and by the way, the decision I eventually made oh so long ago was NOT to expand my business.

And I don’t regret one delicious moment.

But since my sons have both grown and are out of the house, I’ve been moving ahead at full speed!

While I’m busy working on my next font design, you can click here to check out

and purchase my Dom Loves Mary font as well as my Belluccia calligraphy font.

Have a Metamorphic Monday!

Free Calligraphy Valentines!

So it’s valentines day and I thought I’d make some free valentines for you!

Just right click on any of the images below and click “Save image as”.

Save to your Desktop so you don’t forget where you put it!

They are made to fit a 5″x7″ card.  So you will need to insert them into your publishing document

( Word, Photoshop, Illustrator..etc) and size down to fit onto half of an 8.5″ x 11″.

Then cut out and place on a colored piece of card stock folded in half. Red would be a good choice.

You may want to trim them up smaller so there’s enough of the paper color underneath showing to make a border.

Insert your own personal message inside:)

DIY Flower Table Number Tutorial

This DIY flower table number tutorial will take you step by step through the process of creating these floral cards for your table.

These were just my small contribution to a big Dallas wedding planned by Colin Cowie of Oprah fame.

Once again, DFW Events, the impeccable party planner, was the local coordinator.

DIY Wedding, DIY Table Number tutorial, DIY Table Number, Flower Table Number, Calligraphy on Table Numbers, Calligraphy, Calligraphy fonts, Wedding fonts, wedding signsThe bride loved magnolias so they were a featured part of the event.

The wedding colors included both gold and silver paired with this beautiful green.

So I created a special mix of both metallics to hand illustrate the magnolia in back of the numbers, which were done in an off white.

Of course the numbers were brush lettered by hand but I’m going to let you know how you can create these even if you aren’t a lettering artist.

DIY Wedding, DIY Table Number tutorial, DIY Table Number, Flower Table Number, Calligraphy on Table Numbers, Calligraphy, Calligraphy fonts, Wedding fonts, wedding signs

Your going to use the same process for both the numbers and the flowers.

If you’re a lettering artist, use a flat brush and gouache paint to letter the numbers.  I used a  1/4″ Scepter Gold II brush and a guide ( see in pic below) to help me center the numbers.

DIY Wedding, DIY Table Number tutorial, DIY Table Number, Flower Table Number, Calligraphy on Table Numbers, Calligraphy, Calligraphy fonts, Wedding fonts, wedding signs

If your not a lettering artist,  find numbers you like from a favorite font.  Size them up on the computer so they will fit nicely in the center of your paper.

Print and trace onto tracing paper.

These cards are 6″ square heavy card stock provided by the client.

If you want double sided cards, I suggest making two separate sides and adhering them with double sided tape so they will be stiffer and stand up better.

DIY Wedding, DIY Table Number tutorial, DIY Table Number, Flower Table Number, Calligraphy on Table Numbers, Calligraphy, Calligraphy fonts, Wedding fonts, wedding signs.Next use transfer paper ( I used white since I had dark paper) and LIGHTLY outline the numbers onto the card stock using a pencil or stylus, as shown in the pic. (Available at any craft store.)

You can use the guide as seen in one of the pics above for centering.

Fill in numbers with gouache paint ( water based paint found at art stores) acrylic paint or paint pens.

DIY Wedding, DIY Table Number tutorial, DIY Table Number, Flower Table Number, Calligraphy on Table Numbers, Calligraphy, Calligraphy fonts, Wedding fonts, wedding signs

Now do the same thing for the flower of your choice.  Find a picture of one you like on the internet,  ( There’s lots of sites about flowers that you can use so you don’t end up with copyrighted material.)

Download it, size it on your computer , print it and put it on tracing paper.  Or you might find a picture you like in a gardening magazine or the garden section of the newspaper.

Make sure to line the flower up over the number before inserting the transfer paper in between and LIGHTLY tracing.

Here’s an important note: Transfer paper has a wax like substance to it, so when you trace it onto the card be sure not to trace on top of the numbers.

Otherwise, you’ll end up with lines on the numbers that will not erase.

With a round brush ( You can get an inexpensive one like the Loew-Cornell Soft Comfort 14000 Round at JoAnn fabrics) brush over the traced lines of the flower with whatever color you desire.

Again goache or acrylic paint will work. If you want a finer line, or don’t want to mess with a brush, try a paint pen.

The gold and silver I used was a combination of gold gouache with gold and silver Schmincke brand powders mixed together.

Even if you just create them for the bridal table, it will add a beautiful look to your table!

I’m almost done with the hand lettering part of my new calligraphy font. Excited to get to the next part- digitizing!

I was thrilled to once again do calligraphy addressing of these envelopes for my clients darling photo Christmas cards.

The photography and card design are by the very talented Angela Weedon of  Angela Weedon Photography.

The lettering is my “whimsy” style.  It has a simple modern feel.  It will be made into a font eventually:)

I love lettering in white on a color.  It just looks so fresh!

I’m still getting back into “work mode” after having a lovely holiday with both of my sons at home and lots of fun visits from friends and family.

One big announcement for the new year…I’m finally opening an Etsy Shop!  I will start selling my fonts there.  We’ll see what else evolves.

I have plans to release at least 2 more fonts this year.  Of course you’ll hear all about it as they progress.

In the meantime, here’s the links to all of my calligraphy fonts.  I’m thrilled that they are both still on the Best Seller’s list!
